The worst thing is that the player has been actively taking part in Scott Shelby investigation sections, where he is trying to find the killer.

Actually that could have been more satisfying than what we actually got. Hell, give the backstory to Shaun Mars and he suddenly stuck himself in a stormdrain to test his father, because of the death of his brother Jason. You may be thinking that that's fine, but the real problem with it is that this motivation comes out of nowhere and is a 'reason' that could have easily been copy/pasted onto any character. So John dies and Scott gets taken off by a foster family to become a killer who is searching for a father who would give anything to save his son. John has his leg stuck because of reasons and it all looks a bit bad, especially when Scott runs back to get his dad who is drunk and couldn't care less. Of course not, the little blighter fell in, and Scottie is left trying to pull his beloved brother out of the pipe before the water rises and inevitably kills him. When Scottie finishes counting, it seems that Johnny boy has decided to hide in some rather deadly rushing water coming from an open pipe.

In a flashback straight out of Lost, young Scottie is playing hide and seek with his brother John in the stupidest construction yard ever. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Scott Shelby, the portly PI is the Origami Killer in a plot twist that is not only unexpected but really makes little to no sense whatsoever. Scott Shelby Is The Origami Killer It's the kind of revelation that still makes me go 'Wait.what?' even though I have found out who the killer is about four times now.
